And if you pander to them by joining hands and bowing your head, you have just been intellectually raped.

If you politely refuse and excuse yourself from the table, as I have done, they will ridicule you. But, if you stick to your principles and beliefs, leave the table, go outside until they are finished, they will have a conversation among themselves and at the next family gathering you may find that they did their religious rituals before you got there. True story.
