If she is a good kid - you need to explain how to choose a worthy charity to her. One that actually spends most of the money it collects on the stated malady/event.
THe AHA ranks very low as a charity and spends more money on administration and fund raising than anything else.
I prefer the Deborah Hospital in Brown's Mills NJ - where more than 95% of the money they collect is for care for those who cannot pay. They do NOT use paid services to collect money - all of the people are volunteers - and their only expenses are in postage and printing.
While I agree with you in principal, they came to her school and asked the kids to get involved. She's 10. Give her a break for not researching the organization.
I want to do this more to make her feel good about herself and let her know that the world is actually a pretty decent place in spite of the fucked up things we do to each other.
