I don't think that blood relation makes it obligatory to love and respect somebody. I haven't talked to my fucked up grandmother (mom's side of the family) in six years and plan to continue with my life as though she did not exist. The same goes for half her crazy daughters who followed her path of martyr attitudes mixed with crazy schemes of seperating the family (which worked).
I do not feel guilty because love and respect are never unconditional, and of these two respect is even harder to give out for free. Depending on the role of the individual in your life, you get to pick just how conditional your love and respect is. For example, the least conditional of all my loves are my children. I almost love them for free, with the exception that they are my kids (so not unconditional). My grandmother is not as important to me, so her conditions grow. My other grandmother meets my conditions (is loving and sane) and so I love her so much.
If the woman hurts herself in an effort to hurt others, look away or you'll be giving her a reason to continue doing the same thing over and over again. Psychology is not there to make excuses for people to behave certain ways, but should be used instead to find the problem and work on getting better (or at least controlling the problem). I know why I have certain issues and instead of getting cozy knowing how I got there, I am constantly trying my best to improve for the sake of my loved ones. I'm not a victim anymore. Sometimes we just have to suck it up and move on.

Pointing around: "Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, you're cool, fuck you, I'm out!"
