All of those things. It can trigger schizophrenia if you are one of the millions of people that are genetically predisposed. It can cause people to not mature emotionally because they are high so much. It can destroy marriages and families and cause people to lose their jobs. It can cause pretty significant short term memory loss that may go away but if people smoke pot consistently for 10 or 20 years, over the course of their life they are effectively running on much less mental horsepower than they would be.
The thing of it is, when you are talking about drug people, it doesn't even matter what the effects of marijuana are. Drug people just do drugs. They may use marijuana for a few years and that be their drug of choice and then move to alcohol. And later on move on to crack. I have seen a lot of addicts follow some sort of pattern like that. I know a guy named John who got into crack when a dealer sold him crack in his weed.
If you do marijuana, you are starting to build up a lifestyle of drug use. If you get used to being high everyday, it is easy to develop and identity and habit of life in which you see drugs as the center of your life. It is very insidious and powerful and extremely difficult to get out of.
Drugs are dangerous. If you do any drug to get high, especially if you do it everyday, you are opening yourself up to create a lifestyle of chemical dependency, whether you are actually physically addicted to drugs or not.
Most serious marijuana users use other drugs.
Why can't people just accept that has already been settled in the medical community that doing drugs to be intoxicated, be it alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, benzos, paint thinner, whatever it is, is taking an extremely serious risk that will inevitably screw up lots of peoples lives? And out of compassion for people whose lives will be screwed up by drug use, oppose the abuse of drugs, which is taking drugs recreationally solely to be intoxicated (if you binge drink once a month and are not addicted or use cocaine once a month, you are abusing drugs).
