Hallucinations happen. You say it was just before losing people, were either of them sick at the time? Stress can make our brains do some crazy shit you wouldn't believe. When my grandfather was in a psychiatric hospital a couple of years following a few suicide attempts, I started having some weird hallucinations, like I'd hear an outgoing ring tone (you know, the sound you hear when you're showing someone) out loud several times a day, and once I was going to have a shower and noticed a bunch of ladybirds crawling all over the window. It wasn't like I just saw them for a second out of the corner of my eye, I stood there.and counted them and had a think about what to do. I decided to have my shower quickly and deal with them after. I turned away to turn on the shower and looked back around and they were all gone. I must have hallucinated them.
Basically, hallucinations are common and seem totally real and indistinguishable from real life, and angels... Well, angels don't exist.
