Yeh I think the only problem he had with the church is that he viewed them as part of the political power struggle.
But to answer your question yeh I'm sure it's possible that somewhere along the history of time a man has killed someone else for believing in god and they were an atheist.
But I can't think of an example of that, and I'm very interested in crime and serial killers and I've heard of a lot of them but I can't remember one who killed for the sake of not believing in a god and killing other people who did.
