From what I have observed of humanity in my short time on this earth, and from what I have learned from studying the history of humanity as well as the history of religion, it is always the religious people who do the most harm to society in the name of a deity. Religion is the opiate of the masses, its very nature allows humanity to act abhorrently toward others so long as the heinous behavior can be morally supported by doctrine. To the same unfortunate effect, religion makes the erroneous claim that people cannot be good without a magical sky daddy whispering platitudes into the ears of its followers and holding their hands to guide them along a moral path toward righteousness. It is basic sociology to understand and deem those religious people as psychotic, those who foresee themselves being downright malicious without a deity's presence.
Atheists understand and know that it is proper to be good for the sake of being good, not because a deity uses bribery to require goodness.
