What is fast food like in the US?
It use to have a really shity reputation here, that they were only producing junk garbage food and treated their employees like shit.
As a result Mc Donalds and others went through an image campaign and today the stuff they serve is not only edable but the food they sell is bought at local farms and has to be in line with strickt regulations, the employees are treated better and the places look better (like a place in which you actualy would eat) aswell.
Fast food has a pretty bad rep here, but it depends on where you go. For instance, it's all probably calorie laden, but Five Guys makes outstanding greasy burgers with very fresh accessories and the stores are always bright and clean. Same with Panera representing the bagel/cafe. On the flip side you have every KFC, McDonalds and Burger King ever, some of which might be clean and many of which aren't.
Here in NC, all food serving places get an inspection score for cleanliness and sanitation, which is usually conspicuously posted beside the hostess table or the drive through window.
For me, I prefer to go to an NC based chain called Cook Out, where the food actually comes out as pictured. Big slabs of tomatoes and onions on your burgers, fresh as hell lettuce, excellent sauces, and milkshakes that must have crack in them (as well as real chunks of cheesecake or oreos or blueberries etc).
