You respect good authorities, and you lend your deference to ones that can not only earn your respect, but are demonstrably good to follow. The god as described in the bible is not any of those things; he's a petulant child demanding obedience because he's got the biggest guns, and leading the majority of the people on earth straight to hell just on a simple numbers game. Moreover, being an admitted omnicidal killer sort of discounts the idea of his authority being earned just to start with.

I've considered the same information you have but have arrived at a different conclusion. At one time I did think there was a great deal of truth in characterizing Moses as the world's first Fascist (Rense's 14 traits of fascism) but soon realized that nature was far more cruel than any God.
As a far as Hell or any notion of torture is concerned, that was and continues to be a well calculated propaganda tool designed coerce the serfdom into the bondage of religion.
