The only reason not given that I have heard is that it is a break with the tradition of marriage in our society - one man and one woman.
Why that should matter I do not know. Traditions come and go as far as I can see.
There isn't a single other argument that is anything approaching real IMHO.
The funniest thing I heard was that it undermines the sanctity of marriage. That came from a colleague of my wife's at a dinner party. He was there with his wife - his third wife and she had been married once before. When I pointed out that as far as I was concerned it was his casual approach to marriage that undermined the value of my marriage rather than the sex of his chosen partner he went rather quiet.
