I'm sure there's a name for this particular mental malady - your predictions don't come to pass, but you STILL insist that the mechanism whereby you arrive at the predictions is valid - but it escapes me.
You see this with all sorts of the wishful-thinking types, not just the religionists to whom the thought of Doomsday gives multiple orgasms, but also with psychics, dowsers, astrologers - the list is practically endless. You demonstrate to them time and time again that they're off their nut, yet they continue to insist in their magic powers. I have a mate who believes in astral projection, so I offered to do Sagan's book-on-a-shelf test. He accepted and got it wrong every time he tried. His excuse for the misses is that (get ready) I used the wrong book. I offer variations of the tests, he always accepts and always fails and yet continues to believe that he can astrally project himself wherever he likes.
Other than that, he's a perfectly normal fella.
