Problem with a two party system; if both parties are saying the same damn thing and the ones who aren't have no voice, then the parties going against the current trend are incapable of gathering votes; without a voice, it's like herding cats...while being blind and deaf.
A country can only do things against its own best interests for so long. Eventually the flagrant profligacy will cost it the means to continue.
I think in a little less than 15 years since Balkan intervention, America's ability to continue to be the world cop has decline by more than half. I can think of no other hegemonic power in history that contrive to set itself up on so precipitous a decline without another power having helped it along by directly challenging it.
