The most important word in the above sentence is "if"
This is something we do not currently know.
It is fully possible that given the right circumstances life isn't unlikely at all - in fact it could be inevitable.
We'll know more when we find another planet comparable to our own out there somewhere. If there's life there too.....
No sign of any life, outside of Earth, anywhere in the universe so far.
