Lion you do understand that by the mere fact he/she doesn't believe, he's breaking those commandments right? In your good ole Bible it states parents should do all kinds of things to their nonbelieving family ranging from ostracization: to stoning them to death. My fundie dad thinks gays should be put to death, therefore I haven't told him I'm a bisexual. I choose not to tell him ---not for me, but for him. I dont want him to have to deal with the conflict he'd feel and also because I dont want to be ostracized from my own father and lose the relationship I have with him. Without him I'd be fine, but I'm all he's got.
This kid already said he makes it known his opinion and they still are pushing for extreme church involvement. The best thing to do in this case is deal with it for a couple years and hold onto the relationship they have because in the end: that's what matters. Furthermore no one told him to lie about his beliefs; if his parents know he/she doesn't believe and dare still fine with the confirmation taking place then that's their choice and who are we to say otherwise? I for one can't pay this kids rent and food can you? We said just do your best with what you got. If the parents' prerequisite is to belong to their club then its a small price to pay for the sanctity of that relationship.
The reality of the matter is that your belief system pulls families apart.
We choose to love you guys despite your beliefs. Too bad its not the other way around..

If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!
Dead wrong. The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.
I say again: No exceptions. Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it. As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.
Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.
