^ just like people have a difficult time understanding that evolution occurs by pure chance.
I'll admit, when I was living in the Bible Belt of south east Kentucky, I made myself the laughing stock of my AP biology class by asking if evolution occurred by pure chance, rather than by my suspicion of there being something guiding the mutations to more preferable genetic functions. I was totally awestruck when I discovered this that my jaw hit the fucking floor. My poor intellectually starved brain finally found a spark of life that very moment though, and the chains of religion BDSM finally shattered a year later when I took physics in high school.
