Some whites didn't help because they liked things the way they were. IE blacks knew their 'place' in white society.
Some probably did want to help but were afraid of what would happen to them socially and personally.
So when feminism started of course most of it would be females.
Men didn't help either because they liked how things were or were afraid to. But yet, there were men in the beginning who did make sacrifices to help out.
