Not that we should act on every carnal urge we have, obviously not. But, it would seem that the problem comes in the form of stifling something that's natural to feel and experience. If you are walking down the street, and like discipulus states, has to constantly be mindful of every potentially ''impure'' thought he's having, afraid that he may be betraying his Lord, then he's missing the beauty of that day. When your mind is preoccupied with sin, potential sin, others' sin...you are missing out on the beauty of living life.
I believe in temperance, but I don't believe in dubbing natural behaviors and feelings as sinful, bad, evil. That type of negative thinking, while the religious person thinks it elevates him/her to another level, it really just causes them to become obsessed with the very thing they're trying not to think about.
