Faith isn't merely the conviction of God's existence. Knowing God exists would only be the first step to worship - which is really the point rather than simply knowing he's there.
As we know from the story of the fallen angels it is quite possible to know God exists and still reject him. Many of the biblical stories are about exactly that.
This denial of proof that he actually exists is far more likely to be caused by non-existence than by some bizarre test of faith.
