The fact that Jesus didn't return and establish his kingdom was already an embarrassment to the church by the time 2 Peter was written, hence the shameless spin. To quote it in the 21st Century as some kind of assurance that all will come to pass is simply pathetic. Grow up.According to the Bible, no man knows when Jesus will return.
Quote:Matthew 24
14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand
Jesus clearly states that the end will come when the gospel is preached to all the world. Also he mentions "the abomination of desolation" written in the book of Daniel.
let's look in Daniel about what it says about this "abomination".
Quote:Daniel 11:31
And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.
Quote:Daniel 12:11
And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.
Have you ever wondered why Judaism no longer practices animal sacrifice? This is because the only place it is lawful to sacrifice at is the temple, but the temple (holy place) was destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD (hence the daily sacrifice being taken away). Erected in place of the temple was "the Dome of the Rock" (the abomination*) Islamic shrine in 691 AD.
*Abomination being translated from the Hebrew word for Idol worship
This prophecy is fulfilled around 1200 years after it was first written and over 600 years after the books of Peter. Saying that the return of Jesus was supposed to happen before the books of Peter was written is false.
Also There is a period of time given after the "abomination" is set up of 1290 days.
this video seem to do a decent job at explaining what the 1290 days mean.
