Rant - how fucked up is the system?

So I have a friend who, along with her two kids, is at risk of becoming homeless. Her deadbeat ex lost his job, and so has no paycheck to garnish for the child support he would otherwise not pay. The state will eventually garnish his unemployment insurance - to the tune of about a hundred bucks a month.

Meanwhile, my friend hasn't been receiving child support at all for a few months, and has fallen behind on the rent, and the landlord is threatening eviction.

A call to the local PHA (Public Housing Authority) was in order. Sure, they can put her on a waiting list for temporary assistance - when the list reopens in three years.

So the Government won't provide help for a women with children even if it means they are homeless for a while? But we can spend a million dollars on a single tomahawk missle that we launch in Libya? WTF!
