Tit for Tat, Moslem.
2/222: “They (Muslims*) ask thee (Muhammad*) concerning women’s courses (menstruation*). Say: They are a hurt and a pollution: keep away from women in their courses, and do not approach them until they are clean.” Menstruating women are ritually unclean.
2/226 + 226: “For those who take an oath for abstention from their wives (preparing for divorce*), a waiting for four months is ordained; if they then return (all is ok and the marriage goes on*)”. If the man still wants divorce after the 4 months, it takes place. Divorce is very simple for men in Islam (but possible, though more complicated, also for women).
003 2/228: “And women shall have rights similar to the rights against them - - - but men have a degree (of advantage) over them”. The first part of this is far from always practised.
005 2/233: “The mother shall give suck to their offspring for two whole years, if the father desires - - -.” Rather long - and the man decide.
009 2/282: “And get two witnesses, out of your own men, and if there are not two men, then a man and two women - - -”.
010 4/11: “Allah (thus) directs you as regards to your children’s (inheritance): to the male, a proportion equal to that of two females.” A man = two women, like in other cases in Islam (in some cases less - f. ex. men decide and men can do what they want).
014 60/10: “They (Muslim women*) are not lawful (wives) for the Unbelievers - - -”. But Muslim men can marry at least Jewish and Christian women.
I hardly think you can say definitively that women are equal.
However, I think that the role of women in islamic society is very interesting, and that the quran can be quite good about women's rights. In fact I wrote a short paper on it last year. I have attached it, if you want to read.
Edit: Is PDF now. Also, this is a very short piece I wrote for only an intro to anthropology class.
