Who do you need some authority figure to tell you what to think? You might as well believe in some god. As an educated American living in the 21st Century you should be able to analyze a complex problem and draw your own conclusions. All of the "experts" have a vested interest in keeping the party line alive. As I said before, there were manuscripts of various kinds floating around. But the English wrote the Bible. And that's one of the main reasons so many people believe in it.
