If space was expanding so would our area also be expanding since we are in space. For some reason you seem to think that there is an edge to space and that everything rushes into the void but at several times the speed of light, except for us. That's insane.

If the age of the Universe is 13.8 billion years old based on the speed of light calculation then everything in it has to be with a 13.8 billion year radius. If something is outside of that radius then the Universe is older than 13.8 billion years or else the object is traveling faster than the speed of light. It's really that simple.
