Sadly I bought it during that time, and even joined the military for it. I think we should honestly just stop using oil and maybe we can just get out of quagmire.
If you think the defense contractors and their stranglehold on our elections are a problem, oil companies are even worse. There's a good reason we're far behind most of the free world in renuable energy use and there's also a reason our mass transit systems are far worse than most of those in Europe. Oil companies expect the people to keep buying their product and when they spend insane amounts of money in elections, the expectation is that the guy they fund is going to help keep us using their oil.
