There is nothing here that is particularly unusual or impossible to explain.
I'm assuming you communicate with your mother, who already knew the sad news. Even though there was no direct communication it is still entirely possible for you to pick signals up. Only 10% of communication is actually the words we use and despite what most people think humans are excellent at reading each other. Even in just a phone call you can pick up things like tone, vibrato, pitch change, stress, etc.
Also we use our dreams to process the mass of information we gather, making sense of subconsciously received signals and signs, so it makes perfect sense that you could have picked up the signals warning you that something was impending from you mother or anyone else that knew and that you processed this information which you remember as a dream.
No weirdness required.
However, if you need to believe in a god or something supernatural (and it is known to be a useful mechanism in times of stress) then perhaps you are looking for something supernatural to justify that need.
Either way, don't worry, it will pass.

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)
