It was a weird thread for Drich to start on an atheist forum because atheists dont believe in Jesus anyway. He should be arguing these points with Mormons and Catholics not us.
Yep.
They will be happy to accept that Sunnis and Shiites are both Muslims, but tell them that Mormons and Catholics also believe in Jesus, they have a problem with that. Why? For the same reason Sunnis and Shiites don't see each other as "true" Muslims.
But theists in general regardless of label will not even give the atheist credit if we say we don't, or should not pull that argument with other atheists.
I personally don't like some Buddhists calling themselves atheist, but the truth is if they do not believe in a god they are atheists. I also don't like atheists who support Ayn Rand economics. And I have run into atheists who simply say "it makes no sense" but have never studied theists or even atheist arguments. The truth is it does not matter what I think they should do or how they should behave. If another atheist says "I do not believe in a god" they are an atheist.
If Christians have a problem with Mormons or Catholics calling themselves Christians, you are right, they should argue with them not us. I accept that all of them are Christians because their core god, and core hero Jesus is the same regardless of the different details they argue.
