Yes, the most important word being died. She didn't want to die. But now she's dead. So taking into account those only facts, the 'treatment' her parents chose for her failed miserably, the consequences being the worst they could possible be.
You don't know either way what happens after we die, only that we die. The mutually exclusive nature of this story means we'll never know what happened if she'd had medical intervention, but I can say right now 100% that the odds of her improving were greater than if she/ her parents had done nothing at all, which is of course what happened.
