(I keep animals and kill them, btw, and I sometimes kill animals I don't keep and eat them - but I do buy quite a bit from others, sure, lots of mouths to feed....so try to remember that you're not having a conversation with a careless or unconnected diner)
Saying "an argument is required for" is maybe misleading, as if it weren't clear what the purpose of eating meat is. It's about the moral appraisal of an action. When you choose to eat meat, usually an animal has been killed for the purpose, and you can decide whether you think this is a good idea or not. I don't see how this is mysterious.
