More goodness from pope Smack'em
Coming from the man himself: http://www.news.va/en/news/a-new-appeal-...attered-by

Quote:A good father knows how to wait and knows how to forgive from the depths of his heart. Certainly, he also knows how to correct with firmness: he is not a weak father, submissive and sentimental. The father who knows how to correct without humiliating is the one who knows how to protect without sparing himself. Once I heard in meeting on marriage a father say: “Sometimes I have to strike the children lightly... but never in the face so as not to humiliate them”. How beautiful! He has a sense of dignity. He must punish, but he does is in a just way, and moves on.

Although... It didn't really sound like "striking lightly" in Italian:

Quote:“Io alcune volte devo picchiare un po' i figli … ma mai in faccia per non avvilirli”

The key word is "picchiare". It does not mean "to strike lightly"; it means "to beat".

But as long as you don't beat 'em in the face, that's good! That's just, and that's what a good father does.
"Every luxury has a deep price. Every indulgence, a cosmic cost. Each fiber of pleasure you experience causes equivalent pain somewhere else. This is the first law of emodynamics [sic]. Joy can be neither created nor destroyed. The balance of happiness is constant.

Fact: Every time you eat a bite of cake, someone gets horsewhipped.

Facter: Every time two people kiss, an orphanage collapses.

Factest: Every time a baby is born, an innocent animal is severely mocked for its physical appearance. Don't be a pleasure hog. Your every smile is a dagger. Happiness is murder.

Vote "yes" on Proposition 1321. Think of some kids. Some kids."
