Yeah, we've been down the road of omniscience, but no one ever admits to the logical consequences. What "we" do and what an omniscient God does, and knows, are very different.
I understand the unwillingness to pick one side or the other, because either our free will or his omniscience have to go. To cling to both is to favour a contradiction over reality.
God is very clearly not omniscient anyway, even in his own book. He could even be described as ignorant. He possesses no more meaningful knowledge than those who describe him in his text.
