The self is a lot larger than many people think. As I said, if it's in your self interest to help others, that's still your self-interest.

Does the self have any boundaries? Who would know the right answer?

I would imagine that would be where the skin and hair ends on our bodies.

That sounds a tad restricted to me, but would be ok if you lived in a coffin.
