So, yeah, it makes no sense to follow nice Jesus and throw out the Old Testament. The Old Testament explains why Jesus is needed according to their religion. The bible says that god does not change so the evil god of the Old Testament is still Jesus. The problem is that Christians don't really give a flying flip about logic or what their bible says.
In the story about the Canaanite woman, Jesus does eventually cure her daughter after she begs. He doesn't make the Roman soldier beg him to cure his servant.
Matthew 8
5And when Jesus entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, imploring Him, 6and saying, "Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, fearfully tormented." 7Jesus said to him, "I will come and heal him."" 8But the centurion said, "Lord, I am not worthy for You to come under my roof, but just say the word, and my servant will be healed
See, the Roman Centurion didn't have to plead or compare himself to a dog for Jesus to come to his house.
It reminds me of a Buddhist lecture I was dragged to. The lecturer went on in length about how modern medical science confirms the teaching of the Buddha about inner peace. Eventually someone asked the lecturer:"so you believe in science and reason, and that confirmed your Buddhist faith?". The monk replied "Not at all, I only believe in the wisdom of the living Buddha, but if I say science confirms Buddha, I can get you to believe in the wisdom of the living Buddha as well"
