Indeed. Did you see the video of AronRa at the Reason Rally in Melbourne three years ago, in which he's talking to a particularly irritating street preacher? He tries to make exactly that point and the preacher, instead of considering that he might be wrong in assuming that the serpent was Satan, merely acts surprised that "Satan was a girl".

I'm not sure why the bible demonizes the people who participate in Jesus' death, when he was born to die for our sins. Excepot that maybe originally he wasn't supposed to be killed, and the early christians were just angry that their holy man was killed at all. This was before people started saying Jesus and yahweh are the same guy, evidenced by the fact that Jesus himself never acted like they were the same guy.
