Parents forcing a christian convention on me - how to keep sane?
#37
RE: Parents forcing a christian convention on me - how to keep sane?
It's up to you how you do it and to what extent, but 16 is that ripe age where you have to start asserting your own autonomy. You don't have to be direct with it, but start letting them know that you are your own person with your own mind and beliefs. If you sit back and simply let your parents plan your life for you, things are going to eventually get very unpleasant.

You don't have to do anything drastic, mind you, and you can assert yourself without undermining your parents authority. Staying silent about the whole thing, however, is just going perpetuate in their mind the idea that you are a person to shape and mold as they please.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell
