I have been around so many conservative religious people who kept telling me I'm going to burn in hell, over and over again, throughout my childhood, and add to that the whole concept of hell in Christianity, also all the bad stuff that's been done in the name of religion, basically, I cannot get over this "feeling" or fear and I don't know what else to do. I'm not going back to religion... well... not without evidence, and I don't want this fear or "feeling" to run my life.
Is it possible that the reason this is still happening is because my former religion has been traumatic for me? Or is this normal because it's only been 3 months? How do I get rid of this "feeling" and fear? Will it disappear with time? Thanks a bunch.
It sounds like you're still feeling the after effects of brainwashing.
Personally I think the best way to stop the feeling would be to brainwash yourself again only this time with constant learning of historical facts of how the concept of heaven and hell has been used by many ridiculous cults, to extort money, land, power and to get people to do crazy stuff.
I don't personally think there's anything wrong with having a feeling that god exists anyway, it's fairly natural and I get that feeling.
But I don't let that feeling give credit to any religion or cult's beliefs.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.
