Iroscato: Some of my family members know, some don't know at all. Since religion, God, gods, church, etc doesn't come up in our conversations (religion was more in your face until my teen years - after that it fell by the wayside to the point that a persons viewpoints only come up at funerals, weddings and Christmas). The dynamic is that we are individuals that make our own choices and live with said choices. Well that's Moms side at least. Dad's side would be more fervent and probably get all dis-owny about things. They don't need to know, he doesn't need to know. He's old, He doesn't need the stress and I don't want the strife.
Close friends know - we can have great conversations with them - some of whom are religious, some are more "spiritual" than Christian types, and some are atheist also. It's a great group of people to hang with.
It's funny, my wife and I were sitting, watching TV several years ago. We had many conversations before this on God, belief, science etc. She said something to the effect of: "I have something to tell you" Scary words for any man to hear, but she said "I think I'm an atheist".......I paused and went "whew! I think I am too" and this resulted in many more deep conversations on religion, God, and beliefs. We've actually traveled this road of changes together she and I. My constant companion, I couldn't ask for a better person to spend my time with, to converse with, to fish and camp with, and to travel those unknown roads with. S
