I know people are trying to be nice in their own way, but what does "I'll pray for you" even mean?

That you will give God some advice?

That you'll beg God not to be too horrible to me?

If God has such a good plan for everyone, why are people always asking him to alter it? And if they are not asking this, what exactly are they doing?
