RE: Are Republicans Conservative?

Bet it hurt like hell to pull that lever. Either the republican base, or the republican field has shifted from where it once stood (or both)...it's difficult to explain votes like your fathers, or my grandfathers, otherwise. I hear it all the time, as anecdote, from my father-in-law and his buddies. They wonder where all the republicans have gone, where all the conservatives have gone. I point to this next elections lineup and they just scowl. I haven't been around as long, myself, nor have I ever been particularly interested in voting....so I don't know, but something seems to be giving people the impression that the words "republican" and "conservative" no longer mean much of anything.
