Well I got it from the Christian theologian R.C. Sproul, who argues that God needs nothing to sustain him, because he has within himself the power of being. He therefore was not created.
He would have to establish the existence of God and prove that he needs to sustenance. If it was framed like "If God exists he would be self sustaining" i wouldn't object, the If just isn't qualified.
Was this initially a response to an argument?
