I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

Sounds like a crock to me. Success allows humans to continue with other attempts (a few will want to sit on their laurels). Think of all the milestones a child has to master to continue. We learn plenty from success, example: Einstein. 

I have know clue about the superstition shit. Makes more sense if you use hypothesis.
