On the subject of panicked units.
The story goes that they first sent a wave of conflicting orders to russian over-the-shelf comms, and then apocalyptic sit reps, before jamming their toy radios. No one wanted to be the last sucker holding the line, so entire units fled when they could without firing a shot or seeing a single ukr soldier. Apparently, one grouping physically couldn't because they were bone dry on fuel and there weren't enough civilian vehicles to steal..so they ended up standing and fighting alone (for their lives, not russia, lol) - inflicting massive casualties on ukr forces in their direction.
They still lost the town, encircled. Mopped up by the next elements through. I think we might end up seeing footage of men trying to swim across that river in retreat sometime soon, getting cut down by machine gun fire until there's a bridge of bodies big enough to drive a stolen sedan over. Or, at least, that's what any russian soon-to-be-trapped in kherson is going to have to spend their nights dreaming about, unless they take some initiative real soon.
