It was introduced because of confusion in the words and non-universal application of the words.
Tell me what is the word used for a person whom believes that no god exists?
Is there no word at all? Agnostic although has rooted meaning of no knowledge regarding the issue was used to refer to neutral stance.
While atheism traditionally meant that you are belief of there being no god.
But words are suppose to just convey a meaning. Not to be argued over what they mean.
So I like this classification system as it convey specifically what everyone believes and how strongly they believe it.
