The trouble with people like MiketheChristian and to a greater extent, ManofGod is that they are so puffed up with an over inflated sense of their own self importance and an unshakable belief that they are right and the rest of the Universe is wrong that no matter how eloquently you put your point across to them, no matter how logical and sensible it may be, if it contradicts with their own view, no matter how slightly, they will reject it outright.
It is therefore impossible to have any sort of meaningful debate with them as they will never budge an inch. As far as they are concerned, we are simply lost souls who are heading for the fiery pits of hell and it is their duty to save us.
They wriggle, twist and turn just like the best politicians and never give a straight answer to the simplest of questions. I notice that MiketheChristian has completely avoided any of the points I raised earlier, for example.
I know many Christians, most of whom are sensible and imaginative folk and in most cases a great deal of common ground can be found. Unfortunately, when it comes to fundamentalists like this they are so blinkered and buried in this dark age nonsense that it totally overwhelms their every waking thought and they adopt what I consider a 'crusade' mentality. All they see in life is some biblical struggle between good and evil. And as they are no doubt good, everything and everyone that dares to question them must be evil.
The greatest 'gift' that humans posses is an enquiring mind with an almost limitless curiosity and fascination about the world it inhabits. It is a true sadness that such potentially intelligent and determined minds can be infected by this evil virus and spread nothing but fear and confusion wherever they go.
