I liked Parker's suggestion that it was a bird...
...although if we then decide to think like Drich or any other typical theist this could be construed as evidence for Homer's depiction of Athena taking the form of a sea-eagle in the third book of the Odyssey, when we are told that Nestor (oh yeah) "prayed, and Pallas Athene heard."
