As Neo already explained, it's not the physical object itself, it's what people are doing when they "use" it. They are attempting to communicate with the supernatural, and that can open themselves up to demonic entities.
My sides are starting to hurt. Don't you claim to communicate with the supernatural all of the time to get answers?
