they aren't lying to make the govt do anything, the govt already wants to overthrow the Venezuelan govt to take their oil
they are lying to make the populous be in favor of it by throwing out lies about whats going on there...
seriously what do you think would make it easier to win support for overthrowing another govt?
A) to take their natural resources
OR
B) to overthrow an oppressive dictator whose making the people there suffer?
when the populous believes a lie it makes it easier to push for things based on that lie
