Mythology always stems from humans making up stories based mostly upon a misunderstanding of reality. But also the powers that be also use it to over conflate their importance.
Just like New York City and San Francisco are very real cities, but just because we can go to the movies and see Superman fly around them, doesn't make Superman real.
So yea, you are correct. But that is the same worldwide in all of human history. The bible is certainly full of real people and real places, but theists wrongfully conflate that to meaning the supernatural is a real thing.
