So yes, I'm aware that's it's not a one to one comparison, but the temperature in the country and the idea of rejecting election results was already happening in 2016. This temperature in the country didn't just pop up out of nowhere in 2020. Like I posted before, the media questioned Trump's legitimacy as President for years based on so called pee tapes and Vladamir Putin making the election illegitimate, somehow. Thousands were chanting not my President on the streets, and talking heads on the news and Hollywood celebs were making PSAs asking the EC to vote against Trump even though he was the choice of the people. Trump took it even further, of course, but he did decide against calling for that state of emergency or he was talked out of it at least, so thank goodness for that.
I get it. I would add that there's an IMMENSE difference between 'not MY president' and 'not THE president'.
And, ironically, IA’s attempt at drawing a parallel between the Dems and the Republicans only manages to demonstrate how different their reactions are. They talk about conspiracies, but they do what they can to make sure if it’s true instead of just taking whatever their Dear Leader claims as Gospel. And if you’re still hazy about what happened, just what happened is explained in detail in The Muller Report.
If they think the laws governing the election are unfair, they don’t invade Congress. They do what (admittedly little) they can to try and change the laws, often by targeting voting restrictions that (in practice) tends to disenfranchise people, particularly minorities. And let’s hope that enough states enact the NPVIC in the next couple years to render the Electoral College obsolete, so that no other candidate can win the Presidency despite having 3 million fewer votes than their opponent.
And once it becomes clear that, regardless of whatever efforts they may take, the other guy’s coming into office, they accept that fact and move on to opposing his agenda and making this president’s first term his last.
