I have been sewing masks for weeks and have a bunch more cut out and still more fabric for after that. My machine is wheezing it's last.
Can't really complain as it was pretty inexpensive when I bought it at the PX back in 1987...I certainly got my money out it over the years.
New machine is ordered and should arrive Sunday. In the meantime I will manage to get a few more masks done by either talking sweetly or swearing mightily at the machine.
Too late now, but maybe it just needs oiling. If a sewing machine sits, the oil congeals. More frequent use actually makes it work better, as the oil stays "softer", if you will. Take it out in the sun for about an hour, and bring it back in to see if it sews better. Your mechanic husband may have some ideas about oiling?
I already took it apart. There's a gear that's got teeth that are ground down. It's past the oiling it stage. It's just worn out.
Or it could be that I blew decades of dust and fiber out of it the other day with a can of air.
