God commanded the Mormons to be record keeping people (one of the very few pronouncements from God the Mormons have never seen fit to change, BTW) and the one thing we've learned about the Mormons over the last nearly 2 centuries is they have a remarkably porous means of keeping records, particularly the ones that implicate the Mormon hierarchy in perfidy, lies, prevarications, connivance and wholesale retconning of their own God's Holy and Inerrant pronouncements.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
